Cooperative learning
Characteristics: Cooperative learning is simple to understand, it’s the learning model in which students have to work together on an assigned task to fulfill their study goals. The most important element in cooperative learning is to showcase the positive effects of interdependence while underlining the importance of personal responsibility (Chris, 2018). It’s the educational approach that brings social experience to students. During a cooperative learning lesson, students will put individual efforts into a group task but result in universal benefits and goals for everyone within the group.
It is clear that cooperative learning can be applied to multiple situations during the design process of a lesson to improve some expected learning outcomes such as critical thinking skills developed through communication, managing skills developed through group distribution.
Does cooperative learning align with our topic?
Yes, I think cooperative learning is the perfect choice for our lesson. Our learning topic is COVID-19. Because our main focus is the biology aspect which can be complicated and overwhelming for starters, a proper cooperative learning method will balance the amount of tasks that need to be done individually. When heavy load content was divided into pieces and everyone has their own part to finish. This cooperative process, however, is not doing simple individual work and put them together at the end. Everyone needs to collaborate and discuss within the group. By doing so, students can exchange their perspectives and understandings of the learning material. They can study the structure of viruses together to figure out the complicated form of Coronaviruses. If enough interaction is happening between learners, there will be a positive effect on their learning results, it’s the integration of everyone’s ability that makes a difference to the overall experience during an interactive lesson.
If it has a place in your final Interactive Learning Design
Yes, it will definitely take an important role in our learning design. We will briefly introduce our cooperative approach in the learning section and then explain how we will apply it in practical ways in the Lesson section step by step. The reason why we decided to apply a cooperative approach is that its features stand out in our Behaviorism design. The combination of direct learning and cooperative learning will work together very well. So I believe absorb from cooperative learning will make our learning resource more comprehensive and solid especially in the activity part.
